Sound of Freedom can certainly be considered the surprise movie hit of 2023. The movie was originally owned by Disney but was shelved in 2018 but then sold and released by Angel Studios. Sound of Freedom is a true story film that exposes the darkness of child trafficking. After rescuing a young boy from ruthless child traffickers, a federal agent (Caviezel) learns the boy’s sister is still captive and decides to embark on a dangerous mission to save her. With time running out, he quits his job and journeys deep into the Colombian jungle, putting his life on the line to free her from a fate worse than death. It’s a heavy subject and one that took a long time to get on film as many studios and the film industry didn’t want to touch it.
Now, the movie studio that distributed the film has announced its home entertainment launch dates. The film will be released first to the Angel Guild, followed by Digital Purchase, DVD & Blu-ray, and Digital Rental. Here’s what the company’s press release had to say.
Angel Studios—a platform and studio empowering filmmakers to crowdfund, create, and distribute films and TV series globally, backed by thousands of Angel investors—is announcing the launch of Sound of Freedom in the home entertainment windows. The Angel Guild will begin its exclusive viewing window beginning October 13 via the Angel Studios apps; followed by digital purchase (EST) on November 3; DVD and Blu-ray on November 14 available at shop.angel.com plus Walmart, Amazon, and other major retailers. Digital rental (TVOD) will be available on December 15.
“The Angel Guild selected and made Sound of Freedom so successful theatrically. They decide what projects are green-lit and are presented to audiences,” said Jared Geesey, Chief Distribution Officer at Angel Studios. “We are honored to give them exclusive early access to this film before its wider release through the world’s leading digital platforms and retailers.”
