While Forza Horizon 4 is expected to make it’s debut at E3 next week, Forza Motorsport 7 is still going strong and is getting a number of new features and an overhaul to #Forzathon events in the June update. Among the other highlighted updates include enhancements to multiplayer, new photography modes, and the availability of the pre-order Hoonigan Car Pack to all Forza Motorsport 7 owners.
As Ford is in the spotlight during the month of June in-game, Turn 10 Studios is gifting everyone the 1982 Ford #6 Zakspeed Roush Mustang IMSA GT. Racers can then hop in and test it out in the Ford Spotlight Rivals event. Anyone who posts a time in the Rivals event will score a 1981 Ford Fiesta XR2 Forza Edition vehicle at the end of June. The Ford Fiesta will also be available during a Spotlight Rivals event later in the month and #Forzathon will also feature some events highlighting Ford vehicles.
Speaking of #Forzathon, unfortunately, it’s been hit and miss in Forza Motorsport 7. The first few were plagued with bugs and even now they don’t update properly after event completion right away. Given the way they’re set up in FM7, this hinders progress as you can’t see what the next task is in each event until the previous one is completed. It’s definitely been a bit of a frustrating experience considering Forza Horizon 3 #Forzathon events run flawlessly. On that note, Forza Motorsport 7 #Forzathon events are being moved internally and are no longer tied to Xbox achievements. While it’s unclear if there will still be achievements for them, albeit the existing achievements award no Gamerscore, hopefully, this move will make them run more smoothly and without the previous bugs.
#Forzathon events are undergoing a change starting in June. Some of those changes are happening behind the scenes, others will be immediately apparent to the player. We’ve moved the #Forzathon system in Forza 7 to an internally managed service at Turn 10. This means that FM7 #Forzathon events are no longer tied to Xbox achievements. Instead, we will now manage #Forzathon events start to finish with our own systems. What this means for the players is new #Forzathon events coming into the game, with more variety, and more frequency. At the start we’ll have three events per week, each with its own reward. We’re varying the steps of events as well – each week we’ll have one 1-step, one 2-step, and one 3-step #Forzathon event to play. Naturally you’ll be able to monitor your progress as you make your way through each event. Look for those new #Forzathon events to go live this week.
On the multiplayer front, gamers will now be able to tune their cars while in a lobby or even while test driving their vehicles while waiting in a multiplayer lobby. Hosts will also be able to password protect lobbies, have more control over kinds of cars used, and even force the use of rental cars. Multi-class racing is back and seeing some improvements as well with improved scoring which allows for the top three finishers within each class used in the race being shown on the podium.
For those who love to take photos of their vehicles in-game, the traditional Tracking focus option will be joined by a new Panning focus option. In case you’re wondering what the difference is, the previous option takes an image as if another car travelling beside you was taking the picture while Panning mode adds a bit more blur and is representative of photos taken by spectators on the sidelines.
Finally, the Hoonigan Car Pack, previously a pre-order bonus, is available for purchase for anyone who owns the game. If you have the Forza Motorsport 7 Car Pass, you’ll be able to snag the car pack at no extra charge. The vehicles included in the car pack include:
- 1965 Hoonigan Ford “Hoonicorn” Mustang
- 1992 Hoonigan Mazda RX-7 Twerkstallion
- 1991 Hoonigan Rauh-Welt Begriff Porsche 911 Turbo
- 1978 Hoonigan Ford Escort RS1800
- 1972 Hoonigan Chevrolet “Napalm Nova”
- 1955 Hoonigan Chevrolet Bel Air
- 2003 Hoonigan Holden Commodore Ute
The June update should be hitting consoles and Windows 10 today with the changes outlined above, and more.
