Xbox and Undead Labs announced today that State of Decay 2 has reached a player base of more than 2 million players in less than two weeks after its launch. There’s no question Xbox has been going hard with promoting the game on social media, and also recently held an Xbox Canada State of Decay Zombie Survival Camp event in northern Ontario for a select few lucky winners.
If a zombie apocalypse ever did occur, you can be assured that there are plenty of gamers who at least think they’ll be ready to take on the undead hordes. With over 2 billion zombies eliminated in-game, gamers have completed 121,000 community stories. Unfortunately, it seems like the expected life expectancy isn’t all that long with the average community lasting only 3 days before succumbing.
State of Decay 2 is an open-world exploration, third-person action survival role-playing game which features a co-op mode. While it does have an overarching story which starts one year after the zombie apocalypse, the way you play dictates the outcome with dynamically generated choices. To be honest, I didn’t start playing it until last week after the ZSC event but it definitely puts your survival thinking and skills to the test.
In addition, Undead Labs released a whopping 20GB patch to the game last Friday. Key features of the patch include:
- Increased stability
- Improved networking interactions for clients
- Improved networked vehicle interactions
- Elimination of Out Of Memory crashes
The game is available in a Standard and Ultimate Edition for $29.99USD and $49.99 respectively. It’s also an Xbox Play Anywhere game — meaning you can buy it once and play it on your Xbox One or Windows 10 computer — and is also available on the Xbox Game Pass which, no doubt, has contributed to the growing player base for the game.
