Google Gemini may run AI features on iPhone

Google Gemini, formerly known as Bard AI, is the company’s big AI algorithm push that is being heavily promoted by the search giant. Supposedly, Apple is shopping around for an AI program to bring new software features to the iPhone later this year. Sources claim that Apple has already been speaking with OpenAI, creators of ChatGPT, as well as Google.

According to MacRumors; “With the release of iOS 18 later this year, Apple is rumored to be bringing major new AI capabilities to its iPhone operating system. According to Gurman, however, Apple is focusing on features that operate on-device and do not require an internet connection. To power additional cloud-based generative AI features, such as the ability to create images and write essays based on single prompts, Apple is seeking a partner that has the necessary large-scale hardware infrastructure and compute capabilities already in place.”

According to Bloomberg, Apple has been working on in an in-house AI program, dubbed Apple GPT, but its complexity is lacking and is behind the competition. So it makes more sense to partner and use something like Google Gemini, for the moment.

OpenAI or Others May Be An Option

It is important to note that Apple is only negotiating presently and there are no certainties about this deal. But the one certainty that can be taken away from this story is that Apple is going to have AI features in the iPhone. Those features could come from Google, OpenAI, or even from some other AI software. I wouldn’t put it past Apple to purchase a company just for the tech. Only time will tell.
